The Gathering Storm
by Steve Mecca (©2002)
Sirens pierce the night, the warning of alarm
No shelter is there now to keep them safe from harm
Refugees take flight, in panic and in fear
Death is imminent for those who remain here
The airships are in sight, their search-beams on the ground
Deadly rays destroy the targets they have found
The flashes of the light, screams of agony,
Prospects of a peaceful life a distant memory
War is upon us, a fact we can't avoid
City after city systematically destroyed
Overwhelmed and under attack
A living hell with a future so black
A lethal cloud has begun to form
Defenses are breached by the gathering storm.
Chaos overtaking the order of the day,
Castle keeps like cobwebs soon are swept away
Fire raging rampant cannot be contained
A frenzied inferno, like a beast that can't be tamed
Armigers still battle invaders by the score
For every one they vanquish, there are a dozen more
The enemy is ruthless, no quarter do they give
Slicing away hope of those that plead to live
War is upon us, a fact we can't avoid
City after city systematically destroyed
Overwhelmed and under attack
A living hell with a future so black
A lethal cloud has begun to form
Defenses are breached by the gathering storm.
